Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. She traveled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss topics such as that of the Iran Contra scandal.
