Selena
She broke through the barriers of the music business by performing, singing and designer. The dual nature of her character as an Mexican American performer was modern and traditional. She helped bring Tejano to the mainstream through her ingenuity. The tragic loss of her life shattered her growing popularity and, like many times when a bright deeply genial star dies far too young caused many to grieve all the untapped potential. Through the years, her people were inspired to work even harder to make sure that Selena's accomplishments would not go unnoticed. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence within the Latino community that could be likened to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact the lives of children as well as old. Selena was a hot, flamboyant performer on stage and was often called her as the Latina Madonna. On stage, Selena was an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
